About this Tea

Plucked from our family estate at Kaircombai in the upper Nilgiris, this FBOP (Flowery Broken Orange Pekoe) represents three generations of growing knowledge compressed into a single tin.

The Nilgiris terroir at 1,800 metres delivers a liquor that is bright, copper-gold, with a briskness that cuts cleanly through milk. Unlike valley teas, the high-altitude cold nights slow the flush, concentrating polyphenols and producing a depth rarely found in commercially blended CTC.

We process within six hours of plucking — wither, roll, ferment, fire — on machinery our grandfather brought to Kaircombai in 1994. The short farm-to-dryer window is why this tea tastes alive rather than flat.

Finally — a tea that actually smells like the Nilgiris

I grew up near Ooty and missed the fragrance of fresh estate tea for years after moving to Chennai. This is it. The briskness is real, the colour is copper-gold, and it holds up beautifully with milk. Our entire household of five now drinks nothing else.

Gifted to my mother — she says it's the best tea she's had in 30 years

My mother grew up in the Nilgiris and spent 30 years drinking whatever tea was available in Trichy, never quite satisfied. I sent her this for her birthday. She called me within an hour of the first cup. Order has been on auto-repeat since.
