Jasmine scenting is one of tea’s oldest and most refined techniques. Fresh jasmine blossoms are layered alternately with green tea leaf in cool storage overnight, allowing the tea to absorb the volatile floral oils as the blossoms open in the dark. The process is repeated once or twice depending on the intensity desired, and the blossoms are then removed, leaving only scented leaf. No essential oil is used, no spray flavouring — only the passive transfer of natural aroma through proximity.
Our green tea base is our standard Kaircombai first-flush green, which provides a clean, minimally grassy canvas for the jasmine. The 1,800m altitude means the base leaf is naturally sweet and delicate, making it a better carrier for jasmine than lower-elevation greens, which can clash with the floral note due to their sharper vegetable character. The finished leaf has a soft, powdery jasmine aroma that deepens in the hot cup.
This is the tea we recommend for guests unfamiliar with green tea who find straight green too vegetal or too light. The jasmine provides a familiar, approachable fragrance while the Nilgiris leaf underneath delivers genuine quality. Served after dinner, it functions as both a digestif and a moment of calm. It is also the most popular tea from our range among overseas buyers in the Middle East and Malaysia, where jasmine tea culture is well established.
