About this Tea

Masala chai in a sachet sounds like a compromise, and with most brands it is — spray-flavoured dust, a spice fragrance that disappears after the first inhale. Our Masala Chai Tea Bags take a different approach: the same physical spice-and-CTC blend we sell in the 200g loose pouch, filled into a roomy pyramid sachet that gives the coarsely ground spices room to hydrate and release their oils properly.

The key difference from our FBOP bags is the steeping requirement. Where the FBOP bag is forgiving at three to four minutes, the masala bag needs four to five minutes in near-boiling water — the whole spices need time to open. Better still, fill your cup with 100ml boiling water, steep the bag for five minutes, then top up with 100ml hot milk and steep one minute more. The result is a reasonable approximation of a simmered chai, produced entirely in a cup with no pan required.

This format was developed specifically for the Indian office and the overseas diaspora kitchen where simmering chai is not always possible. It is also our most requested product from international buyers in Singapore, the UAE, and Kuwait, where gas-hob chai simmering is impractical in office environments. If you already love our masala blend and want a format for your desk, this is the answer.

Keeps at my desk and tastes genuinely like simmered chai — remarkable for a bag

I was sceptical about masala chai in a bag format. Every brand I had tried before used spray-flavoured fannings that smelled nice for ten seconds and then tasted flat. This is completely different — you can feel the texture of the coarsely ground spice through the pyramid mesh. Steeped properly with half hot water and half hot milk, it produces a cup I would be happy to serve to guests. Carrying four boxes on my next trip abroad.
